Currently a full-time concept artist-illustrator in the entertainment industry, Mari Takeyama used to also specialize in portrait work hand-drawn in traditional fine art media.
Specifically for Anime Expo 2009, she created Project J.R.F.A.: An extensive series of visual kei Japanese-rock portraits featuring musicians who have written music for many popular anime series. In an effort to create cultural awareness through her art, Mari's Project J.R.F.A. hoped to "spread the J-rock love" to better educate local communities about traditional and modern Japanese pop culture.
* Fun Fact: During the last few days of her last year hosting Project J.R.F.A. at Anime Expo's Artist Alley, Mari had the honor of being approached by Luna Sea/X Japan's Sugizo, who purchased her art to support her cause.
